The album is a vibrant exploration of grief, blending pop with a prism of cultural influences to dissect such themes as spirituality, heritage and womanhood. It follows her 2020 breakthrough project, Cha Cha Palace, which earned accolades from the New York Times, made Barack Obama’s annual Best of Music playlist and led to a performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk.
