Steve Lacy (RCA)
8/4/22

WHAT IT IS: Compton native Steve Lacy had already made a name for himself by collaborating with Kendrick Lamar, Vampire Weekend, Solange, Mac Miller and more as a guitarist, producer and songwriter. He cemented his status in the music world with his independently released 2019 debut album, Apollo XXI, which earned a Grammy nom for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Filled with tales of modern heartbreak and courtship, his sophomore album and major-label debut, Gemini Rights, features breakout track “Bad Habit” and “Sunshine,” his standout collaboration with Fousheé. Combining melodic tones with wicked guitar licks and bars, the set deftly combines elevated alternative R&B and funk.
