WHAT IT IS: Newcomer Kassi Ashton is bringing a whole new attitude to country music. The California, Mo., native touched down with a string of critically acclaimed tracks released by UMG Nashville in conjunction with Interscope, including her introductory autobiographical release, “California, Missouri,” which drew raves from American Songwriter, CMT, People, Sounds Like Nashville, The Boot, Taste of Country and more. The singer/songwriter grew up listening to legendary female country artists like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Reba McEntire. Now, she’s defying convention with her own signature style of confessional storytelling that highlights her soulfully rich vocals on songs like “Heavyweight,” “Hopeless,” and “Violins.” This newcomer has a stage presence that commands attention and has already proven herself as a magnetic force in country music.
