Hailing from Toronto, independent singer/songwriter Jess Benko has unveiled her latest project, Who Am I When Nobody’s Watching. Stream it here.
An intimate three-song set, followed by an outro, the introspective EP tugs at the heart strings and pulls out any lingering emotions. Executive produced by Matt Kahane and Quin Kiu, alongside Benko, the rising star also wrote each track on the EP.
Additionally, the project embraces the roots of her 2019 album, Do You Love Me, or Are You Just Lonely, which was created on an iPhone in her bedroom and has garnered 50m+ streams RTD.
“This project is about some of the negative emotions I’ve dealt with in the past. I’ve felt a lot of doubt and anxiety but convinced myself that I wasn’t allowed to have those because on the outside it looked and sounded like I was in a much better place. I’ve realized that that’s much more destructive than the actual emotions themselves, so like I do, I wrote to cope,” said Benko.
Now, having racked up 1m+ monthly Spotify listeners, Benko is diving into the next chapter of her evolution as an artist. With each track on the EP accompanied by a music video, peep your eyes on “When Nobody’s Watching” below and check out more visuals here.
Benko is managed by ATG’s Ryan Sullivan and Omid Noori.
