Day Wave, neé Jackson Phillips, is putting us in our feels with his latest single, “Before We Knew.” Following the release of his 2020 acclaimed EP, Crush, the breezy new track arrives via [PIAS] Recordings and is all about embracing change.
“I wrote ‘Before We Knew’ last fall after taking a long break from writing songs. When I sat down to create again, I knew I wanted to let go of my old process, I wanted to make music feel fresh for myself again,” said Jackson.
Accompanied by a video, the Jason Lester-directed visual—shot in one-take on 16mm film—finds Phillips in a desert as he makes his way through an abandoned town, capturing themes of isolation, nostalgia and hope.
Emerging from the Bay Area in 2015 with a series of singles and EPs, Day Wave is gearing up to release more new music this year. Until then, stream “Before We Knew” here and check out the vid below.
