Neo-classical piano prodigy BLKBOK has inked to Billy Mann and Benton James’ icons+giants in partnership with ADA Worldwide/Warner Music Group.
Having previously toured with artists like Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, John Mayer, Demi Lovato, Timbaland, Duran Duran, Ciara and more, BLKBOK spent the last year finishing his debut album, Black Book.
Set for release on Juneteenth, the album was inspired by his isolation, the turbulent political climate and elevation of BLM over the last year and features only one vocal collaboration with Grammy and Tony-winner, Renée Elise Goldsberry. Pre-save it here.
“It is truly an honor for me to be signed to icons & giants,” said BLKBOK. “It’s a comforting feeling when you know that your label founders believe in you and your creative vision and are excited about breaking the status quo of what an artist is.”
“BLKBOK is one of the greatest rappers we’ve ever heard, except instead of rapping words, his fingers are speaking melodies and voicings and stories from the piano that force the listener to pause and reflect on life. This kind of audacious, high quality artistry is exactly what icons+giants was created to fight for and champion,” added Mann.
“BLKBOK is the pinnacle of authentic cultural art, and I am so grateful that he chose us to be his partner in the business. This project means so much more to me than dollars and cents, and I can’t wait to watch it touch people in a real way,” said James.
BLKBOK is also set to perform live at the Juneteenth Freedom Reception held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C. on 6/18 as well as the Juneteenth Freedom Concert on 6/19 with headliners T.I.,Domani and more for the 2021 Juneteenth Freedom Festival.
Additionally, BLKBOK recently dropped his mixtape, CVRART, showcasing a neo-classical, hip hop-inspired take on hits like Saweetie’s “Best Friend” f/Doja Cat and Cardi B’s “Up.” Stream it here.
