WHAT IT IS: Born in New Jersey and raised by two gospel-singing ministers in Atlanta, Breland started penning songs as a teenager. Inspired by hip-hop, R&B, country, pop, The Beatles, Rascal Flatts, Prince and his icon, Stevie Wonder, the singer/songwriter exploded onto the scene with his country-trap hit, “My Truck.” What started as a social-media challenge to get 500 commends eventually led to the self-release of the track, which hit #1 on Spotify’s Global and U.S. Viral charts. The “Pen Point Guard” amassed high-profile cuts for artists like YK Osiris while also studying management and marketing at Georgetown. A fresh remix of “My Truck” f/Sam Hunt is out now, and Breland’s debut EP is on the way.
