WHAT IT IS: On the heels of her 2020 BRITs Rising Star award and winning the BBC Sound of 2020 poll, British/Jamaican soul singer Celeste will release her debut album later this year. Singles “Strange” and “Stop This Flame” exemplify what’s to come from the L.A.-born, Brighton-bred singer/songwriter, who started writing music at 17. After signing to Lily Allen’s Bank Holiday label, which released her first EP, she inked with Polydor in 2018. Last year, Celeste was named BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year after performing at Glastonbury, SXSW and the Cannes Film Festival, while also supporting Janelle Monae and Michael Kiwanuka on tour. Her latest single, “Stop This Flame,” is the title track to Netflix’s They’ve Gotta Have Us, premiering 2/5.
