WHAT IT IS: Jaten Dimsdale —better known as Teddy Swims— has earned quite a buzz on YouTube. The singer/songwriter, who describes himself as “someone who isn’t me sometimes,” a play on the second half of his moniker, has steadily been releasing covers since joining the platform in May of 2019 and has racked up over 68m views on his videos since. Growing up, the Atlanta native—and grandson of a Pentecostal pastor—navigated between worlds, playing football and doing musical theater. This dichotomy manifested itself through his participation in bands that played ’80s hair metal, funk, modern metalcore, soul and alt-country, contributing to the genre-bending style he’s known for today.
