WHAT IT IS: Flaunting ’90s rhyme reverence, fashion-forward fire and endless charisma, Saweetie—born Diamonté Harper—can go bar-for-bar with the best of ’em, and fans and critics immediately recognized and responded to that. Within six months, she cracked 100m cumulative streams, earned a gold plaque and garnered praise from Billboard, Fader and Noisey. L.A. Times pegged her as “one to watch this year.” Drawing on a passion for poetry and numerous years of rapping in the car, she turned her love for words into vivid verses on 2018’s High Maintenance EP; her smash hit, “ICY GRL,” eventually earned RIAA platinum certification. 2019 saw the release of Saweetie’s ICY EP, which spawned viral sensation “My Type”—currently gold-certified and approaching platinum status. “My Type,” which debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Pop Songs charts, hit #1 at Rhythmic and Top 5 at Urban radio.
