When I last talked to Ryan Thompson, owner of The Drunken Coconut, his network had a very impressive standing, with three public playlists that had generated more than 63k unique followers. Since then, his Spotify page has welcomed nine additional playlists, highlighting a variety of moods and buried genres, such as Brazilian Bass and Melbourne Bounce. His playlists, however, aren’t the only things doubling in size; almost four months later, The Drunken Coconut has been able to accumulate 190k+ followers. To say he’s been keeping busy is an understatement.
Today, The Drunken Coconut generates around 10k new followers a month. And Ryan receives more than 2,000 demos a month, which he then vets to sort into one of his 12 playlists—though I have no doubt in my mind these numbers are set to grow.
