The Red Light-repped Kaya Stewart is garnering some serious, early buzz. The songstress—independent on the records side—recently teamed up with U.K. producer Jamie Lidell, who's now based in Nashville, to bring us soulful pop earworms via new project LIYA.
The duo dropped their first single “California” in late July. And more music from LIYA is expected to be released later this year.
"Jamie and I hit it off from the first day we met in Nashville," Stewart recently told Fader. "In a room surrounded with Jamie’s vintage synthesizers, we experimented without any pressure or label breathing down our neck and 16 songs later we realized we had actually made a unique sounding album. This first release 'California' is an example of us having that creative freedom and even though the song is full of irony it still sounds uplifting in a weird way."
Stewart, who played to a packed Bardot for last night’s School Night, previously racked up 5m+ Spotify streams with her debut single, "In Love With a Boy." She's planning to drop new single “So Good” in October. In the meantime, you can watch the vid for “California” below.
