WAVE MUSIC: WEEKLY TAKEOVER
7/15/18

While many people think of dorm rooms as a hub for late night shenanigans, Alex Bruski, owner of WaveMusic, saw it as an opportunity to share his passion of finding undiscovered artists with the rest of his bunkmates. Bruski’s effort to help his friends unearth new music was a hit, and eventually led him to create a YouTube channel in 2013. By creating Pop, Electronic and Chill lyrical videos, Alex quickly saw his channel grow into a community of followers—now accounting for more than 1.3m subscribers. His Spotify network, on the other hand, was created as an extension channel, and features tracks you may not find on the YouTube page.

Although there's some overlap, Alex wanted to make his Spotify network unique in its own way. By working with artists such as electronic music noisemaker Anki, Alex was able to cultivate strong relationships with other producers in the game. His friendships eventually allowed him to curate a collaborative playlist, The Reef, which has over 10 producers uploading tracks to this list, including Conro and Beauz.

WaveMusic’s most recent collaborative playlist, however, has turned into a weekly segment that features an artist takeover each Friday. Wave Music: Weekly Takeover serves as a focal point for music discovery right from artists themselves. “I’ve always liked learning more about an artist, such as what they listen to on the daily, rather than just the music they make.” Exclusively on Spotify, the playlist is a great way to discover hidden talent — enjoy this week’s takeover below.
