5/14/18

The Greek Theatre reopened its doors last week for its summer concert series, starting with Khalid’s The Roxy Tour. Before Right Hand Music/RCA’s rising star hit the stage with his electrifying show, the crowd got hyped with SYCO/Columbia boyband PRETTYMUCH. The five-piece group mix a fresh R&B sound into your prevalent pop. As they harmonize on cue and whip out choreographed dance moves, you wouldn’t be able to tell that they met only a little over two years ago, but as member Nick Mara says, “We have a sort of swagger to us that just really shows our R&B side.” Brandon Arreaga mentions that they pull inspiration from songs like “Poison” by Bell Biv Devoe saying, “We believe in being cultural. Even in our music and the way we present ourselves. It makes sense for us to let that message come across. We’re pop, but we’re also very urban.”

It’s worth pointing out that their latest music video, for “Hello,” features Tony The Tiger (yes, you read that right), and the song is featured on the first-ever edible record—made of actual cereal, namely Kellogg’s Chocolate Frosted Flakes.

After begging publicist Mike Navarra to reconsider the HITS photo-op, the boys posed for this post-show pic. Seen here are (L-R): Zion Kuwon, Nick Mara, Austin Porter, the mag’s Claudia Villarreal, Arreaga and Edwin Honoret. And a few minutes later, the “cereal” really started to kick in.
