21 Savage (Epic)
5/10/17

WHAT IT IS: Raised in Atlanta, 21 Savage comes from a background of poverty, struggle, crime and violence. His debut mixtape, The Slaughter Tape (May 2015), illustrated his hyper-violent, hyper-real view of the real Atlanta. His follow-up, Free Guwop EP, a collaboration with Sonny Digital, was 21 paying homage to East Atlanta’s Gucci Mane. His third release, Slaughter King (Dec. 2015), put him on the map as an artist to watch. His most recent release, Savage Mode (July 2016), a collaboration with Metro Boomin’, took his underground stardom to mainstream success, receiving 11.6k+ in sales in its first week as a completely independent artist. It charted #1 for a full week ahead of Drake, Schoolboy Q and Logic. In its third week, Savage Mode remained #4 on all of Apple Music (not just hip-hop).
