WHAT IT IS: Maggie Rogers burst into the public consciousness when an early version of her debut single, “Alaska,” was played for
Pharrell Williams during a master class at The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU (where Maggie was a student). Video of Pharrell on the verge of tears while listening to the song went viral and earned a slew of media attention. In the ensuing year, the Maryland native has released the debut EP, Now That the Light is Fading, to critical acclaim, sold-out worldwide tours and booked high-profile U.S. summer festivals, all while “Alaska” has amassed more than 80 million streams.
