WHAT IT IS: “Sigrid is one of the most remarkable and intriguing signings of the year,” says Island MD Jon Turner. “You might think the music of this 20-year-old from tiny Bergen in north Norway—who stands at 5’2”—reflects her understated stature, but Sigrid commands every room with quick wit, and leaves a striking impression on every person she meets. With sharp, intelligent lyrics that reveal a bite and self-assurance rare in someone so young, the young musician—an empowering new talent for young women across the world—has an inner strength that immediately makes her stand out from her peers, writing uplifting, confident melodies; each song is a unique story and battlefield. Her debut, four-track EP is due out next year. There will be powerful visuals, including live performances, for each track to help build a world around Sigrid that reflects who she is and what she represents.
