Snakehips (Columbia)
11/23/16

WHAT IT IS: “Snakehips were building a buzz, doing remixes and releasing originals back in 2013. ‘Days With You,’ which was an independent release in 2014, was playlisted on BBC Radio 1 and subsequently charted in the U.K.,” explains Columbia U.K. A&R Director Julian Palmer. “This sparked a flurry of label interest and they signed directly to Chairman/CEO of Sony U.K. Jason Iley in a deal which would allow them to continue releasing independently for a period via Sony Red Distribution. Having been courted constantly throughout that period by Columbia, they decided to upstream to the label for their first major release ‘All My Friends’ and a forthcoming album in 2017.” “All My Friends” was released on the 10/21/15, charted at #5, has had 224m combined streams and was Shazamed 1.4m+ times. It was A Listed by Radio 1 & 1Xtra for nine weeks and on the playlist at Capital, Capital Xtra, Kiss & Kiss Fresh. The track is now certified platinum in the U.K., with over 660k records to date. “Cruel” was released 7/15/16 and was on the A List at Radio 1 and 1Xtra, as well as on Capital, Capital Xtra and Kiss. The video has been watched 15m+ times, and the track has been streamed 35m+ times. They also released EP Money On Me to wide critical acclaim. Snakehips have played live dates all across Europe, including Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds, as well as five sold-out headline North American tours and Coachella. The duo draws influence from classic 70s soul and cutting-edge, contemporary R&B and hip-hop (fused with a European rhythmic edge), and has also supported Chance the Rapper and Major Lazer. They recently played to a sold-out crowd at London’s KOKO. They’re managed by Dan Bearman and Johnny Pinchard and booked by Coda Agency’s Nick Matthews and Chris Hearn.
