WHAT IT IS: This West Tennessee-native is in the studio now, both writing and producing and putting the finishing touches on his debut album—set for release in 2017. Lay, a former college basketball player, draws inspiration for his autobiographical songs from growing up in a small town and playing sports as the son of a preacher. An outstanding lyricist, his sound is influenced by ‘80s rock and ‘90s country that’s been mixed together with a modern sound and groove. Musical influences include a mix from Alabama and Blackhawk to Def Leppard to Kenny Chesney.
