HITS' own Jesse Beer (CliprKid) and Naomi Robin (RockinRobin) jump on the web to discuss the newest adds on the radio charts this week, and you've got an inside look at their chat. Find out what's hot on their radar.
CliprKid: Hey! Let's jump right in, first wanna say Kudos to Ben Berkman and his team, The Struts is now Top 25 this week on the alternative charts and was #1 on the Spotify Viral Top 50
RockinRobin: I’m starting to really dig the new music on the Alt charts, especially Coleman Hell’s “2 Heads.” Although, tbh, it feels like they just inserted banjo parts as an excuse to work it at Alternative. This song's a monster, it’ll definitely end up on top 40
CliprKid: So they are the ones that stole Mumford’s Banjo?
RockinRobin: Hah, precisely. Speaking of artists that are stripping away their folky origins, I’m in love with Beck’s fresh single, “Dreams." He's a master of evolving to fit the times while staying true to his sound. Really excited to hear what he does on his upcoming album
CliprKid: Who doesn’t love Beck? Guy is amazing. The song debuted #16 at Alternative this week and #12 at AAA. He just keeps evolving, he is just one of those timeless acts
RockinRobin: I’ve become a huge fan of AAA recently. My lesbian lover to be, Courtney Barnett, just debuted at #28 with “Dead Fox,” AND she was just nominated for Best Live Act in the AIM Independent Music Awards. Great week for her!
CliprKid: I think i actually like the video more than the song
RockinRobin: Dude. Make a doctor’s appt. Your ears are busted
CliprKid: Whatever...a song that i really like is “Tell Me What You Want From Me” by Good Old War. Saw those guys a couple years ago at the Troubadour and really enjoyed their music
RockinRobin: They remind me of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros with great summer vibes
CliprKid: Oh good call...i actually went to high school with the kid they call Edward Sharpe
RockinRobin: You’re so cool. Thoughts on the new Alabama Shakes single, “Future People”? It just debuted at Triple A and I’m not sure how I feel about it. The choruses are really interesting, but I can’t make out a single word in the verses. Maybe it’ll make more sense after smoking a blunt?
CliprKid: You know I’m straight edge, right?
RockinRobin: Yes. You don’t need to remind me of how boring you are :P
CliprKid: Moving along...let's talk about Big Sean’s new single, “One Man Can Change The World.” Reminds me of Wiz’s “See You Again,” a good feeling urban record..could be a big one
RockinRobin: He sounds like such a sweetheart in this one, unlike T Wayne who professes that he’s the “King of this shit, crowned by the toilet” in “Nasty Freestyle." People seem to be loving it though, it debuted on Urban this week and already hit 1 million Shazams
CliprKid: Do you think my son will like it?
RockinRobin: Duh. He's the most gangsta 7 year old I know. Anyway, I'm gonna go enjoy Leon Bridges' new album now. Ciao
CliprKid: Catch ya next week
