WHAT IT IS: The debut album from the L.A.-based duo of Jeffrey Jacob and Angela Gail could serve as the soundtrack to a David Lynch movie. Equal parts atmospheric and gauzy, and driven by sharp hooks and sing-along choruses, the set is inspired by faithful archetypes and deals with powerful subjects like sex, crime and religion. First single “Peaches” serves as a celebration of mutual attraction and sensuality that Jeffrey jokes could just be about fruit. The magnetism between the two is palpable but hard to define. Angela’s Americana/folk-country/classic-rock vibe melds with Jeffrey’s penchant for Anglo art-pop and heavy, Memphis-infused riffs to create something unique.
