UMPG WAVES THE BATON
5/3/23

UMPG has inked global pub deals with highly decorated composers Kevin Puts and Angélica Negrón.

“We are delighted to welcome Kevin and Angélica to our Universal Music Publishing family, and particularly to our world-class Classics & Screen roster. They are both truly unique and trailblazing composers in their fields,” said Natasha Baldwin, Executive Vice President of UMPG Classics & Screen.

Winner of the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts (G. Ricordi & Co) has established himself as one of America’s leading composers having been commissioned and performed by major organizations around the world including the Metropolitan Opera, Philadelphia Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, Opera Philadelphia, The New York Philharmonic, The Baltimore Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and Minnesota Opera. Through the new agreement, UMPG’s Classics & Screen division acquired Puts’ catalog which will be published under the Ricordi imprint.

Angélica Negrón (Decca Publishing) is the recipient of the 2022 Hermitage Greenfield Prize, Negrón and has been commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, National Symphony, Opera Philadelphia and has composed music for film and television including the original score for HBO’s docuseries Menudo: Forever Young, Landfall and Memories of a Penitent Heart and is a founding member of indie electronica band Balún.

In a related story, a HITS editor once again attempted to play "Chopsticks" and broke down crying today. That makes 37 days in a row, we think.
