RESERVOIR INKS MARLEY MARL
6/28/22

Reservoir Media has struck a partnership with Marlon Williams, aka Marley Marl, acquiring a stake in the multi-platinum hip-hop producer’s publishing catalog. The deal includes Marl’s production publishing on LL Cool J’s two-time platinum, Mama Said Knock You Out, and its Grammy-winning title track.

Throughout his career, the Queens native has also worked on Eric B. and Rakim on their debut single, “Eric B. Is President,” full-length albums by Heavy D and the Boyz, plus more from Juice Crew, Roxanne Shanté, MC Shan, Biz Markie, Fat Joe, Big Daddy Kane and TLC, including the latter’s four-time platinum-selling 1992 debut, Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip.

“We’re honored to represent Marley’s catalog. He has been shaping hip-hop music since its beginning, and we are proud to support all his impressive contributions to the genre,” said Faith Newman, EVP of A&R and Catalog Development, Reservoir.

“Faith Newman and I go back for decades, and I know she and the team truly care about my music. I am so happy they’re going to be the new home for my catalog,” added Marl.

“One of Reservoir’s consistent key strategies is expanding our catalog of evergreen hits. Working with Marley is a great opportunity to deliver on that goal by extending the reach of his classic hip-hop tracks and helping to deepen their value,” shared Rell Lafargue, President and COO, Reservoir.
