A HOPEFUL SYMPOSIUM
9/24/20

City of Hope’s Music, Film and Entertainment Industry group and Future Hope committee have teamed with Division of Health Equities Director Rick Kittles, Ph.D. to present the Closing the Care Gap – Facing Racial Disparities in Health Equity: Ensuring Black Lives Matter symposium.

Taking place on 10/14 at 2pm PT/5pmET, the virtual program is presented by Universal Music Publishing, Sony/ATV and Warner Chappell and aims to help identify areas where people can contribute toward achieving health equity.

“The historic lack of attention on the health of poor communities of color in this country has led to systematic disparities in health and health outcomes, increased financial insecurity and toxicity, and the extreme lack of trust for biomedical research and the health care community,” says Kittles.

Kittles will be also be joined by Suzet McKinney, Ph.D., CEO/Executive Director, Illinois Medical District, and Kameron Matthews, M.D., Assistant under Secretary for Health for Community Care, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

The 90-minute program is divided into four segments: Overview of Disparities: Biology and Family History, Public Health: Prevention and Access to Care, Health Care Partnerships: FQHCs/community health and a Moderated Q&A segment.
