Primary Wave has inked English songwriter/producer Nicky Chinn to a co-publishing agreement.
Acquiring the multi-platinum songwriter’s music-publishing catalog, part of the deal's terms also gives access to the publisher's infrastructure, which includes digital strategy, marketing, licensing, and synch opportunities.
Some of Chinn’s biggest songs included in the deal are Sweet’s Top 5 hit “Ballroom Blitz,” Huey Lewis and the News’ Grammy-nominated “Heart and Soul” and #1s like Tony Basil’s “Mickey” and Suzi Quatro’s “Stumblin’ In,” among others.
"Nicky Chinn wrote some of the most memorable songs of the ‘70s and ‘80s that still resonate with fans today," says Lawrence Mestel, CEO & Founder of Primary Wave. "We are thrilled to welcome him into the Primary Wave family and our team is so excited to bring new life into these classic pop songs."
Beginning his career in the ‘70s, Chinn joined forces with Mike Chapman in the glam rock era as a songwriting pair and worked closely with Mickie Most. By 1971, they wrote Sweet’s first two major hits in addition to a string of singles for Smokie as well as Exile’s #1 track “Kiss You All Over.”
