Primary Wave held a writers' retreat last week in Montecito, CA. The five-day event took place at Ben Margulies’ studio Secret Garden. Artists and songwriters in attendance included JeremihGREYDante Jones, Livvi FrancQuinn XCII and more.

There were also several industry speakers, including Janine Scalise Boyd (Starz), Jordan Bromley (attorney/Music Artist Coalition), Matt Colon (YMU) and Arjan Timmermans (Apple Music). The event focused on industry awareness but was also about wellness; a yoga instructor was brought in to offer classes each morning before writing sessions began. Kenny Loggins stopped by to chat with the writers and wound up staying to write, and ASCAP flew in Alex Falk to perform as well.

Later that evening, a shaman administered ayahuasca from a bubbling cauldron over the fire pit, while chanting hits from the pubbery's catalog.
