Warner/Chappell Music has signed an exclusive agreement to administer the rights to the inspirational1972 classic Free To Be... You and Me.
W/C signed the deal with the Free to Be Foundation that oversees the project and develops and markets educational products that challenge stereotypes, fight discrimination and encourage individuality. Actress Marlo Thomas created the original, which was co-produced with Carole Hart.
The album features Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Roberta Flack, Rosey Grier and others.
“Now more than ever, the world needs the inspirational lessons and themes of our original songs and stories,” Thomas said. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Warner/Chappell, as we know they will help us carry these important messages and values to new audiences around the globe."
Kurt Deutsch, Senior Vice President, Theatre and Catalogue Development for Warner/Chappell noted that Free To Be was “a cultural phenomenon of its time.” “Our team is excited to reimagine the cherished children’s songs and poems through collaborations with our songwriters and identify new opportunities in film, TV and advertising.”
