Def Jam's 1-2 Punch

“Snowmageddon,” “Blizzard of Historic Proportions,” “Whiteout,” whatever you
want to call it… stock up, stay inside and keep the cell phones charged! And while all of that freezing is going on across the Eastern Seaboard, things are really heating up for Def Jam’s Sackheim, Chester, Rothschild and Farag. After two big add weeks with Kanye West f/Paul McCartney’s “Only One,” it’s bubbling just under and looking to chart. Then along comes Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds,” which dropped on Saturday and is already racing up the chart with tons of great majors on board. WXXL Orlando’s Brian Mack (below) tells us, it’s “nice to hear a Beatle involved in a Top 40 project again. Sounds great!" Apparently it tastes great too…

“Nice to hear a Beatle involved in a Top 40 project again. Sounds great!" - Brian Mack, WXXL

RCA’s Riccitelli, JR, Strazza, Daddio and Cooper have their plates full with a ton of hits, as Mark Ronson f/Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” is the new #1 this week. Since that track’s just moving to power at a lot of key stations, it should remain there for at least the next couple of weeks. Prince Royce f/Snoop Dogg’s “Stuck on a Feeling”–Most Added last week and fresh off his performance for Miss Universe–is moving toward Top 15. Pitbull f/Ne-Yo’s “Time of Our Lives” picked up 10 new adds from various stations, including WKSC, WIOQ and WNOW, is #8 on the Shazam chart and is sitting at #16 on Mediabase. Usher f/Juicy J’s “I Don’t Mind” is Top 10 on the Shazam Top 200 Chart, has sold 400k+ singles to date and was Top 10 Most Added last week. Kelly Clarkson’s first single from her forthcoming album, “Piece by Piece,” is selling 70k singles a week and was #5 Most Added last week, with adds at KDWB, WRQX, KRBE and more. Meanwhile, Becky G’s “Can’t Stop Dancin’” is on over 65 stations and has over 10m Spotify streams…

Columbia’s Leipsner, Borris and Vaughn moved Hozier’s Grammy-nominated “Take Me to Church” to #5 this week. One Direction’s “Night Changes” had another triple-digit increase week and, based on the great callout from KIIS, KDWB, WFLZ and many more, you can expect this one to continue to climb. Ella Henderson’s “Ghost” is the #11 track at iTunes, which picked up big adds last week from KHKS, B97 and KQCH. After just four weeks on the chart, Calvin Harris f/Ellie Goulding’s “Outside” is sitting Top 25 with new adds on the board from WDZH, WRQX and WDJX and 51m+ views on YouTube

Capitol’s Reese, Rainey, Youngblood and Siciliano have Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” moving up to #4 this week with big spin increases coming from KIIS, KAMP, KEGY and KLUC, while 5 Seconds of Summer’s “What I Like About You” (#30) grabs new airplay from KKDM and WLDI. Ne-Yo f/Juicy J’s “She Knows” (Motown), fresh off their GMA appearance, is poised to make the move to Top 30 after only three weeks on the chart…

Epic’s Glassman has Meghan Trainor’s “Lips Are Movin” sitting at #7 on the chart and #7 on iTunes, selling 100k singles a week. Fifth Harmony’s “Sledgehammer” is showing a #1 RateTheMusic score and huge MScores, while it looks to move Top 15…

Warner Bros.Gray, Dyer and Reich see big spin increases from KTFM, WODS and WSNX with I Love Makonnen f/Drake’s “Tuesday.” Priory’s “Weekend” charts this week and picks up new airplay from WDOD, KMXV and WBLI. Look for a big add week on one of Kid Kelly’s favorites, Echosmith’s “Bright”…

Republic’s CW, Spangler and Russell put Jessie J’s “Masterpiece” in the Most Added column and are just about to chart with it. James Newton Howard f/Jennifer Lawrence’s “The Hanging Tree” moves Top 10 this week, while Taylor Swift’s “Style” (Big Machine), one of this week’s Greatest Gainers, moves to #21 and continues to climb. Two weeks prior to impact, Natalie La Rose f/Jeremih’s “Somebody” sits at #36 with big majors on board, such as KAMP, WWPW,WKQI and KMVQ. On the Island side of things, Tove Lo’s “Talking Body” debuts this week and was Most Added on impact. Nick Jonas’ “Chains” is at #37 and Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries” (DCD2) is #14 on the chart, coming off a great week of TV appearances on Fallon, Today and Kelly and Michael; they have a #1 album debut this week with 200k+ sold…
