DICKIE ROBERTS TOPS WEAK BOX OFFICE
September 8, 2003
It only took $7 million to be the #1 movie in America this week, and so David Spade’s Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star landed at the top in its opening week. Like the music biz, the film industry takes a break at Labor Day—obviously. Just behind Dickie was Jeepers Creepers 2, which brought in $6.7m.
The only other film opening wide was The Order, starring Heath Ledger. It drew $4.3m, which means that only the people who worked on the film and their families went to see it.
Here’s the rest of the top 10 for you to pretend to read: #3 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl ($5.5m); #4 Freaky Friday ($5.1m); #5 S.W.A.T. ($4.6m); #7 Open Range ($4m); #8 Seabiscuit ($3.7m); #9 Freddy vs. Jason ($3.2m); #10 Uptown Girls ($2.4m).
