SUMMER SMASH SNAGS YOUNG THUG'S FIRST POST-PRISON SET
Frank Schwichtenberg
Young Thug has chosen Chicago's Summer Smash as his grand re-entry to live performance, following his release from a Georgia jail in December after roughly two-and-a-half years on a host of gang-related charges.
The UTA-booked rapper will headline the festival at SeatGeek Stadium in suburban Bridgeview, Illinois, on its final night, 6/22, which will also see hometown favorite Chance the Rapper top the bill. Don Toliver and Yeat will debut a new collaboration in the top slot on 6/20. Future headlines on 6/21.
Summer Smash, which is organized by Lyrical Lemonade and SPKRBX, will also play host to a wide array of hip-hop talent, from Lil Tecca, Lil Yachty, Quavo and Destroy Lonely to Insane Clown Posse, Ski Mask the Slump God, G Herbo and Osamason.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow (3/28).
Organizers are touting improved production, sound and lighting for this year's fest, as well as dozens of art installations, carnival games, roaming performers and marketing activations, plus a Ferris wheel overlooking the grounds.
Last year's Summer Smash featured Travis Scott, Playboi Carti and Chicago rapper Chief Keef's first local show in 12 years.
HITS suggests not eating an entire deep-dish pizza before boarding the Ferris wheel.
