LATIN GRAMMYS ADD AND TWEAK SOME CATEGORIES

March 19, 2025

The Latin Recording Academy has announced new categories and amendments that will go into effect immediately for this year's 26th Latin Grammy Awards.

A new field and new categories will be implemented. In the new Visual Media field, the new category Best Music for Visual Media will recognize "original music created to accompany and enrich the storyline of movies, television series, video games and other visual media."

The 2025 Latin Grammys will also introduce the new category Best Roots Song, to be added to the Traditional field. This award is given to the songwriters of new, unpublished recordings, both vocal and instrumental, that reflect the traditions and roots of various communities, cultures, or social groups, especially those of Hispanic American origin, whether in Spanish, Portuguese or in indigenous languages or dialects.

There are small tweaks to multiple category names, including the elimination of the word "Vocal" in the Pop field. The album categories in the Pop field are now Best Contemporary Pop Album and Best Traditional Pop Album.

Multiple eligibility criteria and voting process amendments have been made, including the change to selection for Producer of the Year, which will no longer be a craft category and will be voted on by a specialized committee in addition to membership screening and voting.
