What’s the first record you bought/were obsessed with. When? Why?

EaglesHotel California. I was a fan from early in my childhood, with my parents always playing their music in the house.

What drew you to country music?

I grew up on country music; it was always just around. A lot of the songs touched on things that were happening in my everyday life, and the stories aligned with my values.

How would you define country music? How has it changed/evolved since you first began your career?

Country music is storytelling about real life. I feel like what’s considered country has broadened since I first discovered it.

What’s the one thing non-country fans often get wrong about country music?

I think the most common misconception is that all the songs are just about trucks and beer and cornfields, or whatever.

Name the artist whose career you most admire, and why.

Ed Sheeran. I really admired watching his hustle on the way up. He would grind every day and stuck to his guns musically.

Yourself excluded, who would you like to see perform at the next Super Bowl halftime show?

Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Best piece of life or career advice you ever received?

Be authentic.
