While few details have yet been made official about the FireAid benefit slated for L.A.’s Intuit Dome on 1/30, expectations are high for a star-studded slate of performers and heavy-duty fundraising to aid recovery from the recent, devastating wildfires.
Produced by the Azoff family in conjunction with Live Nation and AEG Presents, the event has already drawn comparisons to Live Aid, USA for Africa (“We Are the World”), the post-9/11 Concert for New York City and other historic convergences of music and philanthropy.
Venue owner Steve Ballmer, a driving force behind the event, estimates it could raise $50m, a goal that several insiders believe is highly attainable. Super-producer Joel Gallen, who produced and directed the 9/11 special America: A Tribute to Heroes, is rumored to be attached as well.
Proceeds from FireAid will go to a newly created 501(c)(3) dedicated to “rebuilding infrastructure, supporting displaced families and advancing fire-prevention technologies and strategies to ensure L.A. is better prepared for fire emergencies.”
The Azoff-managed Eagles (pictured) are the first artists out of the gate to make a donation, pledging $2.5m to the cause.
The giant live effort has naturally spurred much chatter about which top-tier acts might be involved. Other questions continue to swirl, including whether it will be livestreamed? If so, which streamer or streamers will carry it? Will there be a documentary? How will tickets be sold?
We’re told everyone wants to be part of this show. How big will it become?
NOW WHAT?
We have no fucking idea.
