The Recording Academy has announced that it will move forward with the 67th annual Grammy Awards on 2/2 despite the devastating wildfires that continue to burn in Southern California.
Recording Academy/MusiCares CEO Harvey Mason Jr. made the announcement on Monday morning (1/13) and confirmed that the ceremony will double as a charitable event.
"In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th Grammy Awards telecast on CBS on 2/2 will proceed as planned," Mason's statement reads. "This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours."
The Recording Academy and MusiCares pledged $1m to fire relief last week. Mason also revealed that the number has doubled thanks to further contributions, adding, "Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and destruction that have come to it in recent days."
The Grammys will take place at Crypto.Com Arena in downtown L.A.
