TikTok launched its TikTok for Songwriters initiative 11/19 in London at an event featuring artist-songwriters JADE and Kamille, as well as colleagues from PRS for Music and The Ivors Academy.
"We see songs generating the same level of excitement and interest as recordings," said TikTok Global Head of Music Business Development Ole Obermann (pictured with JADE and Kamille). "On TikTok, songs can be sung by anyone and reinterpreted, reimagined and shared, which leads to popularity and success both on and off the platform."
Added PRS Members' Council President Michelle Escoffery, “As songwriters and composers, we may use, or want to use, digital service providers to help develop our music careers, but we may not always know how to navigate these platforms effectively or make them work best for us. By partnering with the experts, we are providing direct learning opportunities for music creators and unique opportunities to connect and feel empowered to take their careers to the next level."
To further those aims, TikTok is plotting an 11/27 drop for its #BehindTheSong LIVE series, which will feature a songwriting master class with RuthAnne (Rita Ora, Kelly Clarkson). PRS for Music, meanwhile, will contribute to the TikTok LIVE session "Get That Bag: Royalties for Songwriters."
Meanwhile, HITS is just struggling to write this story—let alone a viral TikTok smash.
