IN WITH THE NEW ON SPOTIFY BNA GRAMMY PLAYLIST
The Grammy Best New Artist category is always one of the awards' most competitive, and 2025 will be no exception thanks to an array of nominees enjoying both critical and popular acclaim. Now, listeners can judge for themselves courtesy of Spotify's BNA playlist.
The list sets the stage for Spotify's annual BNA bash, which took over Paramount Studios last year and is sure to be a Grammy season highlight this time around. (As always, HITS will await word that our invitation has been lost in the mail.)
Chappell Roan (Island), who figures to be one of the top vote-getters, is also one of the few nominees on an actual first Grammy go-round, as is Benson Boone (Night Street/Warner), whose breakout hit, "Beautiful Things," has notched 1.3b Spotify streams.
In a throwback to previous veteran winners like Shelby Lynne, Sabrina Carpenter (Island) was nominated despite nine years of prior major-label releases. Similarly, Dead Oceans trio Khruangbin got a nod despite having been together since 2010 and putting out several acclaimed albums in recent years.
Less time-tested nominees include Shaboozey (American Dogwood/Empire/Republic), whose "Tipsy (A Bar Song)" became a cross-format smash, topping Spotify charts in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, Australia, Norway and Sweden.
Teddy Swims (Warner), another multigenre hitmaker as a result of the 2x platinum "Lose Control," also stands to receive strong support in the voting, along with BRIT Award-winning belter Raye (Human Re Sources), a rare indie entrant in the category.
Doechii (TDE/Capitol), who's logged 622m solo Spotify streams and millions more via features on sides by Tyler the Creator and Katy Perry, bears the hip-hop standard for this cycle.
