As the long-awaited official announcement of her inking with Island lands in inboxes, "Sailor Song" by singer-songwriter Gigi Perez has tacked into the Top 10 on Spotify's global and U.S. charts (it's currently at #7 on the latter). The song is also #2 on the Spot's U.K. rundown.
The latest streaming boost accompanies several other impressive developments in the young artist's career, notably the anticipated arrival of "Sailor" in the U.K. Top 10, sold-out shows in L.A. and NYC and action at Alternative radio. Perez, incidentally, is managed by Dana Salant at Laffitte Management.
The charmed course of "Sailor Song" is just the latest highlight of Island's extraordinary year; last week, for the first time in its history, the label had both the #1 and #2 albums on the chart—thanks to Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, respectively. Co-chiefs Imran Majid and Justin Eshak are so delighted with Island life that they don't even mind our constant queries about how to make a bong out of a pineapple.
