COLDPLAY'S "MOON" RISES HIGH ON U.K. MIDWEEKS

Coldplay’s Moon Music (Parlophone) is the fastest-selling album by a British act in the U.K. of 2024 so far, having shifted more than 160k units by today’s Official Albums Chart midweek point.

Moon Music is set to earn the biggest week for a homegrown artist on the chart since Adele’s 30 (Columbia) debuted at #1 with 261k chart units in 2021. Taylor Swift still has the fastest-selling album of the year with THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT (EMI), which sold 270k in its first week this spring.

Elsewhere on today’s midweek albums tally, Public Service Broadcasting could have its third Top 10 LP, with The Last Flight (SO Recordings) at #2.

The third record from Radiohead offshoot The Smile and its second of 2024, Cutouts (XL) is at #3, while James Bay starts at #5 with Changes All The Time (EMI).

The 1975’s 2022 chart-topper, Being Funny In A Foreign Language (Dirty Hit), could re-enter the Top 10 at #6 following the release of a limited-edition liquid-filled vinyl version.

Eighties icon Alison Moyet is on track to claim her first Top 10 album in 11 years (and sixth overall) with Key (Motley Music/Cooking Vinyl), at #7.

Other potential new entries in this week’s Top 10 are Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works Volume II (Warp) at #8 and Jake Bugg’s A Modern Day Distraction (Sony) at #10.

On the U.K.’s Official Singles midweek chart, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste” (Island) is yet again leading the race and heading for a seventh consecutive week at #1.

“Somedays” (Solotoko) by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D is up four to #6, while “Sailor Song” (Island) by Gigi Perez climbs one to #10.

Following the release of Moon Music, two of the album’s singles are set to reach new peaks. “feelslikeimfallinginlove” is up 16 to #11 and “WE PRAY” is up 17 to #15.

Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” (Island) is up two to #13, while Addison Rae’s “Diet Pepsi” (Columbia) rises six to #16.

Little Mix member Perrie could have this week’s highest new entry with her third solo single, “You Go Your Way” (Sony), which starts at #18.
