Noted festival promoter Jeffrey Shuman and Live Nation have parted ways after two highly successful years that saw them book such enormously successful festivals as Sick New World, Fool in Love and When We Were Young.
Live Nation’s C3 Presents and promoter Huston Powell are said to be taking over When We Were Young, which will be held 10/19-20 in Las Vegas with My Chemical Romance (CAA’s Matt Galle) and Fall Out Boy (CAA/Crush). They'll also handle the 2025 edition of Sick New World, which takes place 4/12 in Sin City and is expected to announce a Metallica-led lineup in the coming weeks.
Shuman, 40, was a Goldenvoice talent buyer before joining Live Nation in 2022 and is reportedly weighing retirement after a 10-year run. He is widely credited with formulating the “mega-fest” master plan, scaling back two- or three-day genre-specific music festivals into a single-day happening featuring upward of 50 different performers. Insiders say stacking the deck and offering so much bang for the buck makes these events must-sees for fans, who don’t even need to book a hotel thanks to the single-day setup.
Shuman became a friend to artists, managers and agents alike in that he paid above the going rate to secure certain talent, often to the dismay of others seeking the same acts to perform at their festivals.
He started out a decade ago creating the Beach Goth festival while working for The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. In 2015, he joined Goldenvoice, where he found his niche promoting the Mexican rock-leaning Tropicalia Festival.
