Billy Joel needs to clear another space in his trophy room, this time for the SoundExchange Hall of Fame Award, which honors his status as one of the most streamed artists in the organization’s history.
Joel, who’s been part of the SoundExchange family since its 2003 inception, utilized it to collect his neighboring rights royalties worldwide, with agreements covering 88% of the global market.
Michael Huppe, President and CEO of SoundExchange, said, “Billy has not only been a significant presence through nearly every major shift in physical musical formats, but he is also one of the digital era’s most streamed artists."
Joel's Emmy-nominated TV special The 100th: Live at Madison Square Garden—the official commemoration of his record-breaking 100th consecutive performance at MSG—will air as an encore presentation tonight (8/23) on CBS.
HITS will be watching while polishing one of our many participation trophies.
