KATSEYE GOES FROM DREAMS TO POP STARDOM

The 2023 victory of Geffen and HYBE's global girl group KATSEYE in the international competition The Dream Academy is being chronicled in the Netflix doc Pop Star Academy, which debuted 8/21.

The program follows the sextet, whose members hail from the U.S., South Korea, the Philippines and Switzerland, through a “training and development” program based on the classic K-pop model. Fan voting and judges' evaluations propelled KATSEYE past 19 other contestants, who were then winnowed to 10 finalists.

Thus far, KATSEYE has released a debut single, sensibly titled “Debut,” and the EP SIS (Soft Is Strong), which dropped 8/16.

From what HITS has seen so far, all we can say is “rawr!”

Earlier this month, HYBE revealed the components of its "HYBE 2.0" strategy under new leader Jason Jaesang Lee, which reorganized the company into music, platform and tech-driven growth silos. Many of the new initiatives will involve Weverse, HYBE's superfan platform.
