U2 is going back to Sphere. Following the March conclusion of the Irish rockers' 40-show U2:UV residency at the jaw-dropping Las Vegas venue, V-U2 An Immersive Concert Film will premiere there on 9/5.
It's the first movie to be shot entirely with the ultra-high-resolution camera system Big Sky, developed by Sphere Entertainment. And just as fans enjoyed HOLOPLOT-powered Sphere Immersive Sound, haptic seats and the world's highest-resolution LED screen while watching the shows in real time, film attendees will also experience these unique features of the venue.
V-U2 was directed by Morleigh Steinberg and U2 guitarist The Edge and produced by The Edge, Alan Moloney and U2's Bono and Adam Clayton.
"The goal was to give moviegoers as close to the live U2:UV concert experience as possible—and then some," The Edge said, quipping, "I’ve never seen a U2 show. I’m so relieved I caught a great one."
“We knew all the tremendous capabilities of the technology, but we didn’t know what to expect from the process of making this film," added Steinberg. "The work became a true collaboration among band, artists, producers and technology teams. The end result is a cinematic experience that transports viewers into the energy and beauty of the live show."
Tickets go on sale tomorrow to U2.com and Sphere Inner Circle subscribers, with a general on-sale planned for Friday.
