As she hits the halfway mark of her 10-show residency at Munich's bespoke Sonderfreifläche Messe, Adele and her team are likely exhaling in a big way.
That's because despite stormy summertime weather and the immense logistical challenges of building the 74,000-capacity amphitheater from scratch, the event has largely gone off without a hitch, earning rave reviews from journalists and hardcore fans alike.
This unqualified success is promoted by Marek Lieberberg of Live Nation and Leutgeb Entertainment Group and was brought to life by Adele manager Jonathan Dickins of September Management and longtime agent Lucy Dickins, who is partner/global head of Contemporary Music and Touring at WME.
Adele's nightly 20-song set is loaded with hits like "Hello," "Rumour Has It," "Skyfall," "Someone Like You" and "Rolling in the Deep," as well as a cover of Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love" and "Chasing Pavements," which hadn't been performed since 2017.
Tickets were initially priced between €74.90 and €419.90, and an undisclosed number of Lucky Dip seats in various sections of the venue are being made available for a mere €35 every Monday ahead of that week’s shows.
"All bouncing blonde curls, winged eyeliner and beaming nude lip, Adele is flawless from every angle—no mean feat considering she’s beamed on what’s been touted as the biggest and sharpest concert screen ever made behind her," The Mirror wrote, referencing the Florian Wieder-designed stage setup, which features a 300-foot catwalk, 650-foot semicircular walkway and 220-by-30-meter video screen.
"The staging was classy: black-clad backing singers and a band center stage, a black and gold color scheme," The Times added. "Hometown glory came with a small army of violin players filling the catwalk as Adele sang before a panorama of London filling the vast screen." Adele even paused the second night of the run to show the Olympic women’s 100-meter final on the enormous screen.
Adding to the experience is a pop-up pub in the style of classic English watering holes, a cover-band stage and vendors hawking specialty cocktails.
After the Munich extravaganza closes on 8/31, the 16-time Grammy winner and career-long Columbia artist will conclude her Weekends With Adele residency at Caesars Palace with 10 shows in October and November. From there, she plans to take "a big break," per an interview with German broadcaster ZDF.
