Fresh off his 18-date Broadway residency at the Palace Theatre, HITS Pride 2024 cover artist Ben Platt kicks off his AEG-promoted North American Honeymind Tour tonight (6/18) at Boston's Boch Center Wang Theatre.
Brandy Clark will support on the run, which will surely feature special guests from time to time. After all, Platt welcomed Kacey Musgraves, Kristin Chenoweth, Leslie Odom Jr., Kristin Bell, Cynthia Erivo, Meghan Trainor, Jennifer Hudson and Sam Smith as surprises during his residency, so the sky's the limit (Liza in L.A., anyone?).
The Honeymind Tour comes in support of Platt's Dave Cobb-produced Interscope album of the same name, which was released 5/31. He recently told us about the impact of the video for first single "Andrew," which ruminates on unrequited longing.
"I first realized the effect it would have when I showed it to some friends—mostly for creative ideas, expecting they would just give me notes," Platt said. "But what I heard back from them was so much more. It was personal: 'I’ve never really seen this represented—a young boy, this age, going through something like this.' Or 'Usually when you see kids in middle school on TV flirting, it’s a guy and a girl.' It was a wonderful reaction to hear. And it makes me want to continue to mine my own experiences and maybe give queer people more examples of things that I wish I’d had when I was younger."
