THE MOTHER OF BLACK MUSIC MONTH: DYANA WILLIAMS

Yes, our new Black Music Month special issue is focused on Atlanta, and Dyana Williams hails from Philly. But the author, media expert, broadcast personality, mentor, occasional HITS contributor and “Mother of Black Music Month” played a key role in the solemnizing of BMM in the ’70s and has been instrumental in expanding cultural recognition of Black music ever since. And by the way, she’s certainly assisted more than her share of creators from the ATL. She’s also been a key booster of and advisor to the game-changing National Museum of African American Music in Nashville. So we’re delighted to salute her here—she’s the reason for the season.
