Our forthcoming Pride Month special issue, we're absolutely amazed to share, has been crafted, curated and otherwise cooked up by the brilliant author, activist and mensch David Bender. The issue focuses on advocacy and allyship, the perils and possibilities of the present moment and the personal odysseys of creative folk who've escaped the clutches of the closet (and one who didn't). Among the music stars whose stories are traced in the issue are Joan Jett, Ben Platt, Billie Joe Armstrong and the late, great Billy Preston; a list of LGBTQ+ artists selected by Sir Elton John and David Furnish provides the soundtrack. We'll also get a stump speech from presidential candidate Randy Rainbow.
We're delighted that David, whom Rachel Maddow has called her "political guru," has agreed to take on this project. Mr. Bender, for his part, is feeling a little like he lost a bet. In any case, keep an eye peeled for the Pride special, coming soon.
