DEF JAM INKS SKYLAR SIMONE
Def Jam has announced the signing of singer Skylar Simone with the release of her new single and video, “Shiver.” Produced by D’Mile, who co-wrote and co-produced the majority of Silk Sonic’s album as well as tracks for H.E.R. and Victoria Monet, the track soars with R&B grooves and puts Simone's vocal prowess firmly on display.
“I wanted to find that perfect blend of the 90s R&B I grew up listening to and next wave/forward sonics and lyricism that I feel ultimately represent the artist I am, and am striving to be,” she said of the single. "'Shiver’ is a song from a strong, feminine perspective about communicating how you want to feel. I hope people can relate to it in their own individual way, and that it makes them feel empowered, sexy and confident.”
Simone, the 22-year-old daughter of a NFL player, grew up in multiple cities. She began her career singing the national anthem at various stadiums across the country. She and her family eventually settled in L.A., where she could focus on her music career.
"I feel like I’m this veteran, even though I’m only 22 years old," she said. "I’ve been out here hustling for over a decade."
"Shiver" will live on Simone's forthcoming EP, which is largely produced by Scribz and Talay Riley. Watch the video below while we mourn our youth.
