Peter Shapiro's Dayglo Presents has assumed operations of the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, New York, adding to his array of venues, which includes the multicity Brooklyn Bowl franchise and the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York.
The venue, which was built by Bob Dylan/The Band manager Albert Grossman in the late 1980s, will reopen 6/1 with a concert by Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble. Other acts set to appear in the coming months include the Mountain Goats (7/27), Guided by Voices (8/10), Karina Rykman (9/14), the Zombies (9/21) and Drive-By Truckers (10/21). Shapiro will be aided at Bearsville Theater by GM Frank Bango and veteran area talent buyer Mike Campbell. The venue is part of a 15-acre Woodstock enclave known as Bearsville Center, which comprises two restaurants, a cafe and bar, residences and the video studio Utopia Sound Stage. It was purchased and restored in recent years by entrepreneur Lizzie Vann.
"The Bearsville Theater has a deep and amazing history that I am excited to preserve and lift, as we put our touch on a new era for this legendary Woodstock icon," said Shapiro (pictured), in between offering up his trademark fist-bump.
Added Campbell, "I am honored to be a part of the Dayglo family, and do not take lightly the responsibility of maintaining the legacy of Bearsville while providing the Catskills and Hudson Valley with world class live events."
