PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

Future and Metro Boomin have once again proven to be a dream team. The duo’s latest collaborative effort, We Don’t Trust You (Boominati/Freebandz/Republic/Epic), arrived on Friday (3/22) with a resounding, um, boom, muzzling the critics who insist rap is dead. It quickly became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day this year.

Unsurprisingly, “Like That” f/Kendrick Lamar is #1 at Spotify U.S. and Apple Music and #4 at Spotify Global, undoubtedly bolstered by K. Dot’s lyrical assassination of both Drake and J. Cole. Kendrick’s venomous lines were trending on Twitter (X) within hours of the album’s release and spawned seemingly endless memes. As of Monday morning, 14 tracks from We Don’t Trust You occupied the Apple Music Top 15 and five were in the Top 15 at Spotify U.S.

We Don’t Trust You marks Future’s follow-up to his platinum-certified ninth solo album, I Never Liked You, which topped the chart following its 2022 release. The new 17-track set includes additional contributions from The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott and Rick Ross, and all signs point to a #1 debut, with projections in the 200k+ range. The number is significantly higher than Future’s last collaborative album, Pluto x Baby Pluto with Lil Uzi Vert, which opened with 105k in 2020.

Future and Metro’s next project is expected on 4/12.
