OLIVIA, NOAH COVER EACH OTHER FOR RECORD STORE DAY

It doesn't get any more zeitgeist-y than this, folks: Sizzling-hot stars Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan are teaming up for a Record Store Day 7-inch vinyl single on which they each cover a song by the other.

Both tracks—Rodrigo's A-side version of Kahan's "Stick Season" and Kahan's B-side rendition of Rodrigo's "Lacy"—were recorded last year during the artists' separate appearances on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. The 4/20 release will be co-promoted by Geffen for Rodrigo and Mercury/Republic for Kahan.

Rodrigo's "Stick Season"-featuring session was taped in October 2023 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and when Kahan recorded his own Live Lounge the following month, he admitted he hadn't given Rodrigo a heads-up that he was about to return the favor.

"I was hoping she wouldn't see it in case it was bad," he said. "She's going to find out eventually. I hope she likes it. I was so honored by her and so inspired by her." Of Rodrigo's take on "Stick Season," he added, "honestly, I was just willing to give her 'Stick Season' as a song after that. Now I've got to try and match up to it." Kahan picked "Lacy" because it "highlights what I love so much about Olivia's lyricism. It's very dynamic and it just makes you feel an emotion we've all experienced before."

Kahan's Stick Season album, which shows few signs of slowing down 16 months after its release, will be #4 on Friday's HITS Top 50. Rodrigo opens her long-awaited, Live Nation-promoted GUTS tour tomorrow at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California. Local retirees: you've been warned.
